Why Drop in the Ocean?

At a Save Darfur rally in Atlanta
My blog's name Drop in the Ocean comes from a favorite quote of mine by Mother Teresa, "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less without that missing drop."  Ever since I was given that quote at a time when I did not feel that I could ever do enough, it has been posted in my house as a constant reminder that every little bit helps. Every drop makes a little change and when enough people get inspired, great change can happen.
Since I have decided to devote my time to charities and causes, I have been fortunate enough to meet amazing people who are changing the ocean one drop at a time and they continue to educate, support and inspire me.  Causes that will always be close to my heart are those that deal with such immediate needs as hunger and lack of clean drinking water and standing with those who are fighting for their lives, whether it is in a refuge camp in Darfur or a pediatric cancer ward.  My support may be anything from donating a tweet to Alex's Lemonade Stand or giving blood at my local American Red Cross center to choosing to shop at companies that give back such as TOMS shoes and Better World Books.
Your heart may lead you to other needs and the causes or charities you support may be different. As long as you find a need and decide to put your drop in the ocean, the world will be a better place. I hope you will share with me what causes you support and how you are leaving your drop in the ocean.

  2. Thank you so much for the kind words. I have always enjoyed reading your blog What the Kid Says, but I never even considered writing a blog until you asked me why I didn't. Lots of love back at ya and thanks for the hours of laughter and enjoyment your books and friendship has given me.
